Internationales Bildungs- und Begegnungswerk in Dortmund

Congratulations for the first alumni – DoKuMente

Absolventen_DoKuMenteTwelve alumni of the IBB training programme „DoKuMente“ received their diplomas from the hands of Hildegard Azimi-Boedecker, Department manager for Job international and Migration at the International Association for Education and Exchange (IBB e.V.) at the Reinoldium on Monday, 5th of September 2016. The Dortmunders participated in a one-year training programme and on Monday passed their final test.

The goal of the training programme: The intercultural mentors should accompany newly-arrived migrants during their first year in Dortmund, navigating civil service appointments, the job market, and giving them general orientation, all the while supporting them with professionalism and competence. During the training programme, they acquired specialised knowledge about the religions and countries of origin of refugees and EU migrants, about their social and psychological situation, and about the legal framework for asylum seekers. They also received useful tips regarding assistance programmes and relevant networks in Dortmund. In their final feedback, the alumni agreed they are feeling well prepared for their complex work in supporting migrants. The cooperative exchange with other supporters was also seen to be very helpful.

As part of the IBB training programme, the new mentors will continue to meet in the coming months and exchange their experiences. A complementary part of the qualification is monthly supervision.

In January of 2017, a second group will start their one-year training to become intercultural mentors. An informational meeting is planned for the 28th of November 2016, from 18:00 to 19:30. The location will be announced shortly. Those interested can already register dialing 0231-952096-0 or via info@ibb-d.de.
