On the occasion of the German-French Day: IBB commences application for the 16th French-German-Polish youth summit

On today’s Franco-German Day (22nd of January) many schools in North Rhine-Westphalia look back on the history of the Franco-German Friendship. 53 years ago, on the 22nd of January 1963, the Élysée Treaty was signed. It laid the foundation for a close friendship. Today more than 400 000 pupils in North Rhine-Westphalia learn French, around 470 schools have school partnerships with schools in France and economic relations are also very close.

The International Association for Education and Exchange (IBB e.V.) in Dortmund likes to point out an interesting opportunity for encounter by youths from France, Poland and Germany: The 16th French-German-Polish youth summit within the framework of the Weimar triangle is once again embedded into a five-day youth encounter.

The state chancellery of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) invites 15 youths from NRW between the ages of 17 and 23 to participate. From the 14th to the 20th of August 2016, 15 young people each from the twinned regions of Nord–Pas-de-Calais, Silesia and North Rhine-Westphalia will meet, this time in Wuppertal. For one week they will work on European questions together, explore the region and get to know their peers from the former mining regions. The highlight will be the youth summit, a discussion with politicians from the three regions.

Interested youths can preregister today by writing an informal email to info@ibb-d.de. Preliminary information can be found here.
