Apply now to participate in the 16th International Youth Summit within the framework of the Regional Weimar Triangle!

Starting right now, youths from North Rhine-Westphalia can apply for one of the sought-after spots at the 16th International Youth Summit: From the 14th to the 20th of August 2016 a total of 45 youths from France, Poland and Germany will meet in Wuppertal, the home town of Johannes Rau, former President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Together they will work on European topics, explore North Rhine-Westphalia and finally discuss their ideas with politicians from the three partnered regions of Nord-Pas-de-Calais (France), Silesia (Poland) and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The topic this year is very current: “Flight and displacement then and now”. In addition to the causes and effects of flight and displacement due to the world wars of the 20th century, the current refugee situation should come into focus. What do current refugees experience on their way and in their host societies? What can Europe do? And: What are the causes for the great migratory movements? Besides discussions with experts and contemporary witnesses, excursions and leisure activities are on the programme. Since 2001, the youth encounters within the framework of the Regional Weimar Triangle gather youths from the three regions and serve to strengthen the relations between the partners. This year, North Rhine-Westphalia is hosting the summit. Except travel to Wuppertal, the participation is free of charge.

15 youths from North Rhine-Westphalia, aged 17 to 23, can participate. The deadline for applications is the 1st of May 2016. Preliminary information can be found here.
