Internationales Bildungs- und Begegnungswerk in Dortmund

Sign up now: From January on, IBB e.V. once again offers further education courses for volunteers in refugee support work

There is still demand. Even though refugee numbers are going down, support is still needed. From the 29th of January onwards, the International Association for Education and Exchange (IBB e.V.) in Dortmund once again offers the further education series DoKuMente to volunteers in refugee support work. Participation in the six seminar session is free of charge. As Dortmund intercultural mentors, the participants can support refugees in looking for flats or a job, in dealing with authorities and in planning recreational activities.

The series DoKuMente trains volunteers for this task: How does Germany work? What are the effects of asylum status for the job or flat hunting of newly migrated people? What are the cultural backgrounds and experiences of refugees? And finally: Which institutions within the city are in need of volunteers? DoKuMente conveys background knowledge about the countries of origin Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan in a brief and concise way and connects newly trained intercultural mentors with institutions in Dortmund active in refugee support work. Newly migrated people or refugees are explicitly invited to participate as well, as their experiences and resources enrich the trainings.

The new series starts on Monday, 29th of January 2018, at 18:00h with a topical evening on the countries of origin Syria/Iraq. It then continues on Monday evenings from 18:00 to 20:30h, on the 19th of February, 5th of March, 19th of March, and 9th of April: These additional evenings will focus on the religions in the countries of origin of refugees, role models shapes by families and cultures, the demands for taking on a job or apprenticeship in Dortmund as well as Afghanistan as a country of origin.
